IId like to start by thanking AAPG for sponsoring my trip and to you for inviting me here to speak today. IIve been working at Yellowstone for about 4 years now, itts a fascinating place, and I want to share with you some of the big issues and scientific conundrums that people are working on. A lot of the slides IIll show and the research IIll discuss is by other people. Some, but not all of them are associated with YVO, which is a partnership between the USGS.....The talk has several purposes. First, IIm going to give you an introduction to Yellowstone, its geologic history and its recent activity. Second, weere going to explore the nature of the volcanic system by thinking in terms of the hydrothermal system. CHANGE.

These are all topics that have long been pondered by a variety of Yellowstone researchers such as Bob Christiansen, Bob Fournier, Don White, Bob Smith and many others and part of my purpose here is to revisit these questions in a slightly different way and to point out some ways that we can make further progress on getting answers.
